Must admit,the 1st thing I thought was that these really old streets had cobblestones in most of them & most of them were straight & not broken,why could they manage that way back but cant anymore? Strange,doesn't say much for our workmen now does it?

Madi Marven, or perhaps the materials. I don’t believe many “modern” techniques involve the use of cobblestones. I’m old enough to remember the modernization efforts in small towns in East Texas (where I achieved adulthood) when they tore up 100 year old brick streets because they were old fashioned. I’ve not had the pleasure of visiting Australia (on the bucket list), but perhaps planned obsolescence isn’t confined to US society. Just a thought.
