The television series The Simpson's introduced their family dog in the episode entitled "Simpson's Roasting on an Open Fire" which aired as the Christmas special during the first season in 1989. He was a Greyhound that Homer saved from a dog race park because he finished last in a race. As the individuals in the family have been through their trials and tribulations so has Santa's Little Helper. He was featured in the main story-line in various episodes throughout the series' run. Initially voiced by Frank Welker, Dan Castellaneta currently provides his sounds.
